A conference on training and the development of the Tsinghua University-Guizhou practical and education center for big data postgraduates, was held at the Guiyang National High-tech Industrial Development Zone (Guiyang HIDZ) on Aug 10, according to Guiyang HIDZ officials.
They said the conference in the zone -- located in Guiyang, capital city of Southwest China's Guizhou province -- attracted the participation of officials from Big Data Development Administration of Guizhou province, teachers from Tsinghua University and business mentors from Guiyang HIDZ.
At the conference, 21 mentors from the zone's State-owned enterprises, scientific research institutes and high growth big data companies put forward their own suggestions.
They exchanged ideas and held discussions with six teachers from the university on establishing procedures to select research topics for postgraduate students.
They also discussed how to facilitate exchanges for mentors, ways to promote the commercialization of projects and scientific research achievements between schools and enterprises -- and establishing a long-term scheme for students to do internships with companies.
According to Guiyang HIDZ officials, the big data postgraduate practical and education center was established to explore how government, universities and enterprises can jointly train the best engineering students.
They said it is an important springboard to create collaborative innovation, innovation resources and development drivers for government, industry, universities and research. They said it would also provide support for talent, for the sustainable development of the big data industry in the province.
Officials said that since the center had started operations in February last year, the first group of 30 full-time postgraduate students in big data-related disciplines had settled into their courses and the second group of 30 full-time postgraduate students were now due to enroll.
