Established in 1992 with the approval of the State Council, the Guiyang National High-tech Industrial Development Zone (Guiyang HIDZ) is the first national-level high-tech industrial zone in Southwest China's Guizhou province.
It is also the big data industry development cluster of Guizhou and a "1+8" national-level open and innovation platform of the province.
It had an approved area of 5.33 square kilometers, but has 31.54 sq km within its jurisdiction.
A development model comprising of one zone and four industrial parks—including the Jinyang, Shawen, Xiuwen and Wudang industrial parks—has already taken shape there.
After years of construction and development, the Guiyang HIDZ is now home to 341 nationally recognized high-tech enterprises, 248 R&D institutions (including 27 national R&D institutions), 442 innovation service institutions, and 60 business incubators (including nine at the national level and five at the provincial level).
In addition, it possesses 4,782 high-level talents, and the total number of talents there has reached 65,000.
Additionally, it has been approved for more than 30 national demonstration pilot projects, including the National Big Data Industry Technology Innovation Pilot Zone, the National Innovation and Entrepreneurship Demonstration Base, and the National New Industrialization Industry Demonstration Base.
These results were based on an assessment of 157 national high-tech zones and announced by the Torch High Technology Industry Development Center, which is affiliated to the Ministry of Science and Technology.
Moving forward, the Guiyang HIDZ plans to boost business promotion and industrial development, advance reform and opening-up, and further improve its business environment.
