Since the establishment of the Tsinghua University-Guizhou Big Data Graduate Practice Education Base in 2019, it has played an essential role in boosting technology R&D and talent training in Guiyang National High-tech Industrial Development Zone in Guiyang, the capital city of Southwest China's Guizhou province.
In 2021, 31 graduate students were engaged in professional practical courses in the base. They worked on research projects under the guidance of 13 mentors from 12 local enterprises, covering a wide range of fields including transportation, healthcare, and natural disasters. The research directions were diverse and closely aligned with the needs of the companies in Guiyang.
For instance, the base collaborated with Guizhou Aluminum-Magnesium Design Research Institute Co to develop an aluminum electrolytic cell big data analysis system and some integrated optimization software to aid decision-making and control in the aluminum smelting process, with a focus on green production in alignment with dual-carbon targets.
The development work has been completed successfully and is undergoing experimental refinement in multiple project areas.
It is expected to generate contract revenues exceeding 20 million yuan ($2.85 million) a year.
So far, the base has participated in over 180 industry-academia research integration projects with 35 companies, resolving 48 key technical issues along the way. The research outcomes from the collaborative training programs have been swiftly applied to enterprise products.
Additionally, the base has not only contributed numerous technological achievements to society but also successfully trained 171 full-time engineering master's students majoring in big data with extensive practical experience in Guizhou.
