Established in 1992 with the approval of the State Council, the Guiyang National High-tech Industrial Development Zone (Guiyang HIDZ) is the first national-level high-tech industrial zone in Southwest China's Guizhou province.

It also ranks as a big data industry development cluster in Guizhou and a talent hub of the province.

The zone has an officially approved area of 5.33 square kilometers, but there are 31.54 sq km within its general jurisdiction.

A development model comprising one zone and four industrial parks, including the Jinyang, Shawen, Xiuwen and Wudang industrial parks, has already taken shape there.

Guiyang HIDZ adheres to the concept of "developing high technology and achieving industrialization" and has implemented an innovation-driven development strategy.

After years of construction and development, a number of innovation platforms such as Guizhou Science City (Chinese Academy of Sciences Guizhou Innovation Park), Guiyang Torch Software Park, and Guiyang Talent City have been built.

Guiyang HIDZ has been approved to have over 30 national-level pilot demonstrations, including the National Big Data Industry Technology Innovation Experimental Zone, the National Innovation and Entrepreneurship Demonstration Base, and the National New-type Industrialization Industry Demonstration Base.

Currently, the number of high-tech enterprises in Guiyang HIDZ accounts for 17.6 percent of the province's total, and 26.6 percent of those in Guiyang city.

Meanwhile, the number of specialized, refined, featured, and innovative "little giant" enterprises in Guiyang HIDZ accounts for 17.1 percent of those in the province and 33.3 percent of the city's total.

Moreover, the number of specialized, refined, featured, and innovative enterprises recognized at the provincial level in Guiyang HIDZ accounts for 12.1 percent of the province and 33.3 percent of the city.

In 2022, Guiyang HIDZ ranked 37th among 169 national high-tech zones in the country, up two places from 2021 as it achieves continuous growth.

Moving forward, Guizhou HIDZ will focus on the three main areas of industry, technology, and talent. It will also strengthen its responsibilities and businesses, and strive to contribute actively to the high-quality economic development of the province and the city.

Since 2023, the zone has been focusing on attracting investment in the upstream and downstream industrial chains of the electronic information manufacturing industry, advanced equipment manufacturing industry, and new energy vehicle industry.

Efforts have been made to promote investment in small and medium-sized thrust engines, precision micro-motors, and software and service-oriented industries such as information technology, application software, and artificial intelligence.

Simultaneously, the Guiyang HIDZ has collaborated with enterprises and universities to conduct investment promotions. It also continuously invites companies for on-site inspections, shares updated information on supporting enterprises in the industrial chain, and provides project support for the region's overall economic development.

In terms of existing factory buildings, it has made progress in attracting investment, with 27 projects already introduced. For platform companies, plans for standard factory buildings are being prepared in advance, and 18 potential user enterprises have already signed agreement contracts.

Additionally, proactive efforts have been made to connect the zone with more than 10 business associations in order to strengthen cooperation with investment entities. This has resulted in the signing of agreements for projects such as the Jishang Building, which will be located in the zone, and the landing of enterprises like Chengdu Hongxia Technology Co.
