The Guiyang National High-tech Industrial Development Zone (Guiyang HIDZ) in Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, has been selected as a National Demonstration Area for High-Quality Clustered Development of the Intellectual Property Service Industry (2025–27) by the China National Intellectual Property Administration, becoming the only recipient in Guizhou.
This recognition underscores the zone's growing role in transforming intellectual property (IP) into a key driver of innovation and productivity.
In 2025, the zone reported robust growth in IP development. Total patent authorizations reached 18,734, with 13,038 valid patents and 8,404 registered trademarks.
Enterprises remain at the core of innovation. The zone has cultivated 10 national IP demonstration enterprises and 14 national IP advantage enterprises, accounting for 35.29 percent of Guiyang's total.
Altogether, 143 companies in the zone have been recognized as national or provincial IP demonstration, advantage, or pilot enterprises — the highest number among all districts, counties, and county-level cities in Guiyang.
The zone has also achieved notable success in delivering high-quality innovation.
In 2025, two companies received the China Patent Excellence Award: Power China Guiyang Engineering Corporation Limited for a positioning device and method for eccentric shafts of fixed-wheel gates, and Vontron Technology Co for its high-throughput reverse osmosis membrane technology. Their innovations solved key industry challenges and expanded into products now exported to 55 countries and regions.
To date, the zone has received 17 China Patent Awards.
To help technology-based small and medium-sized enterprises overcome financing constraints, the zone has pioneered data IP pledge financing in Guizhou.
In 2024, the zone-based Qiuxiang Technology Co secured a 500,000-yuan ($72,359) loan from the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China using its data IP, marking the province's first such financing case.
The zone has also advanced the development of the data element market. A total of 204 data IP registrations have been completed, covering data products, algorithm models, and AI models.
In 2025, the zone was approved as part of Guizhou's second batch of data IP pilot areas, while Guizhou Duocaibao Internet Service Co became one of the province's first leading enterprises in data IP.
As a result, IP is increasingly being converted into tangible economic value. In 2025 alone, companies in the zone secured 51.5 million yuan in patent pledge financing, providing strong financial support for innovation.
